The 54th Annual NYC Cannabis Parade & Rally is more than a tradition — it's a living history of New York resilience. We remember the activists who risked everything when a joint meant a jail cell, and we acknowledge the tribulations of a movement that fought through decades of the Rockefeller Drug Laws to reach the light of legalization.
But our roots are spreading. This year, we are proud to host the Million Mushroom March, marking a new frontier in our struggle for the right to heal. As we march for the full realization of cannabis equity, we also march for the de-stigmatization and decriminalization of fungi and plant medicines that offer hope to so many.
From the Yippies' first smoke-in to the global psychedelic renaissance, we stand at the intersection of heritage and healing. We march for the pioneers who paved the way, the prisoners of the drug war still seeking justice, and the future of a New York that embraces the full power of the natural world.
Join the Legacy. Expand the Vision. May 2, 2026.Dana Beal is a 79-year-old Yippie activist and co-founder of the NYC Cannabis Parade — the very march you're attending today. He is the originator of the Million Mushroom March and a pioneer in ibogaine harm reduction research through Cures Not Wars. He is currently incarcerated at the Mountain View Transformation Center in Boise, Idaho.
Although sentenced to 4.5 months, parole requirements may keep Dana behind bars until December 2026 — a potentially life-threatening extension for a 79-year-old who has survived a heart attack and stroke and urgently needs specialized medical care in New York.
Dana is eligible for parole on June 30, 2026. Without a Medical Waiver or Interstate Compact transfer, programming requirements may delay his release by six months. Six months could be his life.
